The 50/50 Group of Sierra Leone, a non partisan campaign for more women in Politics, Parliament, Local Government, and Public Life, held its 9th Annual Rajiv Bendre “Women in Public Life Lecture” at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel on July 5, 2014 at 4.00 pm.

The Annual Rajiv Bendre “Women in Public Life Lecture” series, launched in 2005 is named in honour of Rajiv Bendre, who as the Director of The British Council in Sierra Leone helped to pioneer the creation of the 50/50 Group of Sierra Leone, an organization that has transformed the lives of so many Sierra Leonean women through advocacy and training for participation in politics and public life. The series is a platform to recognize and highlight the contributions of women in politics and public life who have made a difference in Sierra Leone and for them to share their experiences, thoughts and views with others.

This year’s guest speaker was Madam Isha Johansen, President of the Sierra Leone Football Association and the only female FA President in the world. She believes that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Sierra Leone because after all: “when women win, we all succeed.”– this happens to be the theme for the event.
