Africa is billed as the next internet hotspot and the industry is gearing up to take advantage of the wealth of potential business and development opportunities that Sierra Leone, along with a host of other African countries, will offer when finally online, scheduled for the 2nd half of this year.

The Africa Coast to Europe submarine cable is being delivered by France Telecom-Orange, with the promise of providing access to reliable broadband networks to the region for the first time in the continent´s history.

The 17,000 KM fibre optic submarine cable runs from France along the West African coast down to South Africa and has been funded by the World Bank to the tune of 700 million USD.

The jubilant landing ceremony, held at Lumley Beach, in Freetown, was warmly received by President Ernest Bai Koroma, members of the National Communications Comission and also from the private sector.
