The annual Green White & Blue Ball (April-28th), organized by the GWB Commission, has become one of the most anticipated events in the Washington DC Area. The past year’s ball was host to over 1,000 guests at the Historical Society of Washington DC, in a night filled with music, awards, and entertainment.
The GWB Commission honors stellar Sierra Leoneans who have made great strides in the entertainment industry and those who give back to Sierra Leone. Sierra Leonean actor Idris Elba, San Francisco Forty Niner and philanthropist Madieu Williams, NBA athlete Mr. Alpha Bangura and Rutgers University wide receiver Mohamed Sanu are just a few that have been honored in the past.
As a must attend event, the Green White & Blue Ball has received coverage from BET network, VOX Entertainment, The Africa Channel, Africa in Demand, Jamati, Sia Magazine, Washington Life and Diplomat Magazine. “We are delighted to be presenting the 4th Annual Green White & Blue Ball. This year’s theme is “Going Back to Our Roots”. At the gala we will indulge in our culture thru music, dance and food. It’s an opportunity for several generations to come together and celebrate the day Sierra Leone was reborn.” says Mariama Jalloh, Principal of the event management group Abstract Events.
This year’s GWB Ball commemorating Sierra Leone’s 51st Independence Anniversary will be held at the Loft Ballroom located at 9375 Washington Blvd, Laurel MD 20723. Sierra Leone native, Ms. Nzinga Blake of ABC’s Culture Click will host. Tropical Fusion Caterers will cater the event and international superstars Bajah + Dry Eye Crew will perform. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the charitable foundation Yehri Wi Cry whose focus is maternal health for the women in Sierra Leone. Sponsors of the night of pride, celebration, and unity are: Abstracts Event Management, Guinness, Air Arik, Jabs Group, and Chrysis Entertainment.
